Today is our fourth, and final, episode into civil rights crimes in honor of Black History Month. Yes we know it’s now March, sorry.
We decided to cover a case from the civil rights era to close out our coverage. It is the terribly horrific case of the murder of Carol Jenkins in 1968. Here Miss Jenkins travelled door to door selling encyclopedias. That was all it took for a monster, actually monsters, to torment her and kill her. She was a black woman in a sundown town and for the racists residents, thats all it took.
She almost made it to safety, minutes from meeting up with friends she was murdered, out in the open. This case shows the history of sundown towns in this country and their impact on residents even decades later. It shows how, even white people, who helped a black person in one of these towns could be targeted and it shows how justice can still come, no matter how long it takes.
We owe it to Carol to stand up and say no more. To say, we failed you and we wont let it happen again.

In today’s episode we are covering the third of our four cases involving crimes against African Americans. It is the rape of Recy Taylor in 1944. Here a woman was attacked by a group of 7 white men while walking home at night from church.
There were witnesses and confessions but she would never receive justice. The crime, however, would birth a movement. Her willingness to pursue justice in the face of threats and a Jim Crowe south, could be directly linked to the modern civil rights era that followed.
This is the case that Rosa Parks campaigned on almost 10 years before she refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus. This is a case that shows just how much one person can take and still get up and do more.

Today episode is our second of four featuring civil rights crimes.  This one is particularly harsh. No word of a lie, it’s very upsetting, barbaric, heinous, really all the awful descriptors imaginable.
It is the case of the lynching of James Byrd Jr. He was unfortunate enough to be walking home after a night out and encountered a car full of racists. Two of the three perpetrators met whilst in prison and were members of the same white supremacy group. What they did next was some of the worst abuses I have ever heard of. It affected me so much that it took me twice as long to write up because I was so disturbed.
They didn’t just kill him, they brutalized him, they tried to destroy him. Even in death, even till recently, he has been degraded further. His grave has been repeatedly desecrated, racist remarks painted and carved into it. But his light shines on. New legislation came into effect, signed into law but our first black president.

So we are doing something a little different for the next few episodes. For Black History Month, we wanted to cover some civil rights crimes and with everything going on in this country, and the world at the moment, it’s more important than ever to know our history and to try and avoid going back to the way it used to be.
This episode is covering the lynching of Michael Donald. He was a well loved and respected, 19 year old man who did nothing more than walk along the street to save his niece from going to the store at night. This was all it took for the Klan to grab him and murder him in a profoundly violent way.
This wasn’t a turn of the century thing or in the 1960’s, this was in 1981.  What the Klan didn’t count on though was a mother whose love for her son and her faith gave her the strength to take on the organization and get justice for Michael.

In today’s episode we are finally ending our series covering the crimes of serial killer, and pedophile, Robert Black. It has been an intense journey through his life and to be honest, we are glad it’s over.

We end this chapter by showing how he was connected to the Jennifer Cardy case which we covered in episode 24. However we also cover what other crimes he has been connected to, some are more compelling than others but one thing is for certain, there are monsters out there and this episode proves it.

This is our second episode of three covering the life and crimes of child serial killer Robert Black.
As with last week’s episode, this one covers a lot of things that can be very hard to listen to including sexual abuse of children.
In this episode we find out the unique circumstances surrounding Black’s arrest thanks to a quick thinking and heroic eye witness who acted on his instincts. Not only that, he was apprehended by the father of the little girl he had just kidnapped and raped.
We also delve into the history of a prolific serial offender who showed serious behaviors from the earliest of ages. This man should have been stoped long before he was. Police and some members of the public knew of his offenses but he was left for over 40 years to terrorize the world.

Happy Thursday guys!

Today’s case is very important to hear. Fair warning though, it’s not easy to listen to. This episode, the first of three, cover crimes against children so we understand if that’s not something you want to listen to. We feel it’s important though, to shine a light on the monster who committed these crimes. Not only to help tell the story of the little girls and their families, but also to raise awareness. Awareness of missed warning signs. Awareness of what is actually a violent crime and what shouldn’t be swept under the carpet or given a slap on the wrists. Mostly though, we want to raise awareness of the many other potential crimes this man may, and probably did commit.

Robert Black was a pedophile and murderer. He was caught when he was 43, however he was first caught committing rape at 11 years old!. He had decades in between where he was free to act out the worst acts imaginable.
